Co-Walking
A Friday morning walk for women who spend a lot of time working alone.
Why I Started This
I know what it's like to spend most of the day home alone. For me, like many others, it started during the COVID lockdowns when working in an office full-time turned into working from home full-time. Over time, that evolved into a hybrid pattern: a couple of days in the office, the rest at home alone. After setting up my own business, I found myself back in a similar rhythm: wonderful days out with clients and groups, and quieter days at home, on my own, sometimes not speaking or seeing anyone the whole day.
I actually like spending time in my own company, and I'm happy working alone most of the time. But I also know working alone can get really lonely. I have learnt that changing environments now and then can help with creativity, energy, and headspace, and a regular break from four walls can make a real difference. Co-working spaces or sitting in a cafe are great ways to get out and about for a little while, but they cost money, and that's not always something we want to keep doing just to get a bit of company. And it doesn’t always solve the problem of feeling lonely.
I know I’m not alone in feeling this way, and I am also guilty of doing the easy thing of just staying indoors, especially when the weather turns. But knowing there’s a small group of other women like me heading out for a little walk, come rain or shine, would make it so much easier to get out the door. A bit of fresh air, some gentle movement, good company, and who knows what else might come from it.
So I wanted to create something that feels easy to get to. Being fairly new to the local area, it gives me a reason to get outside, meet other women, and perhaps even find opportunities to brainstorm, share ideas, and support each other along the way. If you spend most of your day on your own, I'd love you to come and join me.
Who these walks are for
This is for women who spend most of their working day on their own. Maybe you run your own business, you’re a freelancer, or you work remotely and you’re on your own a lot. Maybe you’re a practitioner, like me, or a creative, or in some other role where you do a lot for other people and rarely stop to give yourself a bit of space before you go back to it all.
Sometimes it’s just a walk and a breather, with nothing in particular to talk about. Other times you might want to throw in a work challenge, a decision, or something going on in life that you’d like to share with someone else. Or maybe it’s neither, just good company. And if the conversation’s flowing, we can always stay on for a hot drink.
